
Lieutenant General George Petkos
Chief of Staff
Lieutenant General George Petkos was born in Veria in 1959. He joined the Hellenic Air Force Academy in 1977 and graduated in 1981 as a 2nd Lieutenant.. He attended all Air Force’s Schools according to his rank as well as the Hellenic Air Force War College. He is also a graduate of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training, in USA.
During his military career, he was assigned in Sheppard Air Base, USA as flight instructor in T-38 aircraft. Consequently, he served in 120 Air Training Wing /363 Squadron as flight instructor in T-2E aircraft. He was then assigned in 110CW/349 Squadron as Fight Commander and Operations Officer and in 113CW/343 Squadron as Squadron Commander, both in F-5A/B aircraft. In the Hellenic Tactical Air Force (HTAF) he served as a staff officer in Flight Safety and Intelligence Directorates. He took up the duties of the Director of the HAFGS Chief of Staff's Office and the Military Office of the Minister of National Defense. Additionally, the duties of staff officer in the International Relations Directorate of HNDGS. He also served as a Director in the HAFGS Operations Center, Director of HAFGS Operations Directorate, as a Commander of the Hellenic Air Force Academy, as a Director of the HAFGS A’ Branch (Operations). Before his assumptions of his current duties, he served as Deputy Chief of the HAFGS.
Lieutenant General George Petkos has flown T-41D, T-37B/C, T-2E, T-38 and F-5A/B aircrafts and has more than 4500 flight hours.
